What Made Me an Artist - My Journey So Far
Growing up with dyslexia made me extremely right-brained, and what a blessing that has been in my life. Around second grade, I remember first creating art and feeling moved by the fact that I could draw better than most. Main-stream academics made no sense to me as a child, so I did art – and lots of it! Dyslexia did not deter me from school; I worked extremely hard to get my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting.

My kids also shifted my heART! My daughter Skylar and son Riley are amazing vibrations of stardust, and they are dearer to my heart than I ever could have imagined. Nothing could have prepared my heart for their powerful teachings. The immense love of being a parent has broken my heART wide open!

Achieving my Usui, Holy Fire, and Karuna Reiki Master’s connected me to understanding the spiritual side of the heart. I always say, “Everyone has issues of the heart.” I have never performed healing in which the heart chakra didn’t need the most attention! Reiki also made me aware of being sensitive-intuitive empath, which keeps me open and aware of my heART! I feel that the heart of the world needs to heal with more art, song & dance!

One of my biggest life-teaching experiences was being in a horrific car accident when I was 16 years old. I woke up in the hospital to learn that I had had OPEN HEART SURGERY! That near-fatal car accident shifted my consciousness and thrust me ahead, I feel, in my heart, where my soul resides and shines. From then on, my spirit learned to do art from the heart (heART!!!). My heART lead me to the Native Americans, where I fell in love with their ways and the old Edward S. Curtis black and white photos. Through painting, drawing, and learning on a reservation, being at a sundance, and attending powerful sweat lodges, I fell deeper in love with Mother Earth. In time, I began to understand that everything around us is alive and communicating at all times at the moment!

Influences of Peru & Cactus Medicine
Another influencer in my heART has been my visits to the South American country of Peru. Cactus medicine has opened my third eye to color and vibrations that most would think don’t exist. The medicine has propelled me in ways that helped heal some of my heart, from heavy burdens that we sometimes manifest for ourselves. But all of my manifestations have been valuable Earth-school teachings.
I hope my heART, surrealism, spiritual, native, crazy colors, and yoga art bring love and joy into your heart; that’s my intent! Know that it’s from deep within my heart, where I’m inspired to paint. And within all our hearts, we are ONE!
